Spanish Town was established in 1805 as Baton Rouge’s oldest neighborhood and reflects the colorful, changing heritage and development of Louisiana’s capital and has been a viable part of Baton Rouge throughout its history.

In 1978 the neighborhood was designated as the Spanish Town Historic District and recognized as such on the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places. This designation maintains, preserves, and enhances the architectural character of Spanish Town.

Spanish Town is also located adjacent to the Downtown Arts and Entertainment District. The heart of Downtown is highlighted by Third Street and the all new Town Square. Galleries, shops, restaurants, nightlife, festivals, and free concert series are all within walking distance contributing to an enjoyable experience! Other close by downtown locations include the State Capitol, Capitol Park Complex, State Museums, City and State Libraries, IBM and The Shaw Center for the Arts. Easy access to Louisiana State University and Southern University via I-110.
